Cyndi Boisjoli, PhD student in psychology, and Martine Hébert, director of the laboratory, recently published an article entitled :
Importance of telling the unutterable: Alexithymia among sexually abused children.
Their findings indicate that sexually abused children display higher levels of alexithymia, which refers to difficulties in identifying and expressing emotions. Alexithymia was also found to mediate the relationship between sexual abuse and internalized and externalized behaviour problems in school-aged children.
