Student Portrait – Estelle

Estelle completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the Université de Montréal. She has been a psychosocial counselor at Tel-Jeunes and LigneParents for over a year. Through her clinical experience with this clientele, she has developed an interest in intervention in relationship and sexuality problems with victims of sexual abuse and those experiencing violence in their romantic relationships.

Estelle has a sincere desire to engage in a better understanding of protective factors in order to reduce the impact of victimization. That is one of the reasons why the various research projects in Martine Hébert’s laboratory have raised her interest. In this sense, she participated in the SPARX project as a facilitator of workshops and discussion groups in participating high schools and in conducting interviews with the parents involved.

In the fall of 2022, Estelle will begin her master’s degree in sexology research-intervention under the co-direction of Dr. Martine Hébert and Dr. Mylène Fernet. The objective of her master’s project will be to report on the effects of the SPARX program, specifically targeting the needs of parents of teenagers in terms of promoting positive love and intimate relationships and preventing violence in the relationships of their children, in the hope of adequately equipping them in their role as parents regarding these critical issues that are of concern to her.
